This End User License Agreement ("EULA") is between you and Prettify ("we", "our", "us") and governs your installation and use of the Prettify desktop application ("the App") for macOS and any future supported platforms. The web version of Prettify is governed by the Terms of Service, not this EULA.

By installing, opening, or using the App, you agree to this EULA. If you don't agree, don't install or use the App.

1. License grant

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on devices you own or control, subject to the limits and restrictions below.

1.1 Free use

You may install and use the free features of the App on any number of your own devices, with no payment required.

1.2 Pro license

If you purchase Prettify Pro, your license activates the App's Pro features. A single Pro license may be activated on up to five (5) devices that you own or control. To free up an activation slot, deactivate the App on a device you no longer use (Settings → License → Deactivate) before activating a new one.

2. Restrictions

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of any non-open-source component of the App.
  • Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works of the App, except as expressly permitted by applicable law.
  • Redistribute, resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or transfer the App or your license key to anyone else.
  • Share your license key publicly or with people who haven't purchased Prettify Pro.
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices in the App.
  • Use the App in a way that violates any applicable law or these terms.

The App includes open-source components governed by their own licenses, which prevail over this EULA for the components they cover (see § 7).

3. Updates

The App may automatically check for and install updates from us, signed with our update key, to deliver bug fixes, security patches, and new features. You can disable automatic updates in the App's preferences. We strongly recommend you don't.

Updates are licensed under this EULA unless an update is accompanied by separate terms, in which case those terms apply.

4. Telemetry and analytics

The desktop App is opted out of usage analytics by default. The first time you launch the App, you'll be asked whether you'd like to share anonymous usage data. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy.

If you opt in, the App sends a small set of usage events as described in our Privacy Statement. Your file contents, filenames, and any text you load into the editor are never sent.

5. License validation

If you activate a Pro license, the App validates it through our server when you first activate, and silently in the background once a week to detect refunds or revocations. Validation requires an internet connection. The free features of the App work entirely offline.

6. Termination

This EULA stays in effect until terminated. It terminates automatically if you violate any of its terms. We may also terminate your Pro license if your purchase is refunded or charged back, or if you breach the Terms of Service.

On termination:

  • You must stop using the Pro features and may uninstall the App.
  • The free features remain available to you under this EULA's free-use grant.

7. Open-source components

The App is built with several open-source libraries (including but not limited to Tauri, React, and many others). Those components are governed by their own licenses, which take precedence over this EULA for the components they cover. The full list of open-source components and their licenses is available in the App at Settings → About → Open-Source Notices, and on prettify.tools at https://prettify.tools/legal/notices.

8. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT IT WILL CORRECTLY HANDLE ANY PARTICULAR DATA OR FORMAT.

You are responsible for backing up your own data.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP, OR $19.99 USD, WHICHEVER IS LOWER.

WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR LOST BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you in full.

10. Governing law

This EULA is governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or related to this EULA will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California.

11. Changes to this EULA

We may update this EULA from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page (in the App at Settings → Legal and on prettify.tools/legal/eula) with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after the updated EULA takes effect means you accept it.
